Easter 2012

We had a wonderful Easter this year :) Not only did we get to spend some time with our wonderful families and eat a lot of good food, we worshiped our risen Lord! That is what Easter is really all about anyway!

We went to church with my parents. My dad was preaching at Gateway since they are still looking for a new pastor. Then we headed over to Josh's parents house for lunch. My parents came & it was so nice to have everyone together!! Except my brother who couldn't make it :(

"Love is Brewing" Tea Bag Favor

A good friend of mine is getting married in a couple of weeks and I am a bridesmaid :) We threw her a bridal shower last weekend at her sister's house and I was in charge of the favors. I found out only a few days before the shower that I was in charge of the favors..... Luckily, I found some cute ideas on Pinterest and put a couple together {found here and here} and this is what I came up with:
They were SUPER easy to make and did not cost a lot either. Her colors are black and white with touches of red. Here are the supplies I used:
I bought a box of flavored green tea for around $3. I also bought a package of these little clear plastic bags at Wal-Mart over in the cake decorating aisle. They were about $2 and 50 came in a pack. I already had some red fabric that I used to cut out some hearts.

I took the tea bag out and took the lipton paper off of the end & hot glued the heart onto the end. I used Microsoft Word for the tags and printed it off onto white cardstock and attached to the bags. And that is it!!

Here are a few pics from the shower:

The shower was fun and she got a lot of cute stuff. We are throwing her a lingerie shower Monday night and I am looking forward to that!

Magnetic Make-up Board

I have been seeing these cute magnetic make-up boards all over Pinterest lately. Well, I finally broke down and made one and I loooove it! It was SO easy to make. Here are my supplies I used:

I went to Lowe's and bought a piece of sheet metal. It was pretty cheap, like around $6.00. I also got some heavy duty magnets. I already had the fabric, Ball jars, and these little hooks you use to hang pictures.

I hot glued the fabric around the sheet metal and folded the edges like I was wrapping a present.

I also hot glued the hooks onto the back....

Then I hot glued the magnets onto the backs of all my make-up that I use on a regular basis. Here is the finished product!!

I put my make-up brushes in one of the Ball jars..

My mascara and eye liner goes in the other jar...
{I attached the Ball jars with magnets also- but I has to use 2 magnets to get it to hold.}

I hung it on the side of my dresser because I loooove doing my make-up while I am sitting down right in front of the mirror! This is my little set up :)

I had to nail two small nails into my dresser to hang it....

One more look :)

31 Days of Praying for Your Husband - Week 2

Day 8: Pray that your husband will work hard to provide for your family, to the best of his ability. Pray that character qualities necessary for a successful career and ministry will be a growing part of his character- persistence, decisiveness, strength, an analytical mind, organizational skills, positive relationships with people, determination, etc.

{Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Romans 12:11}

{So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. 1 Corinthians 15:58}

Day 9: Pray that your husband handle finances wisely, will have discernment concerning budgeting and investments, and will be a good steward of his money in regard to giving to the Lord's work. Pray that money will not become a source of discord in your family.

{Don't wear yourself trying to get rich. Be wise enough to know when to quit. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle. Proverbs 23:4-5}

{When God's people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality. Romans 12:13}

{Don't love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, "I will never fail you. I will never abandon you." Hebrews 13:5}

Day 10: Pray that your husband will cultivate strong integrity, and not compromise his convictions. Pray that his testimony will be genuine, that he will be honest in his business dealings, and will never do anything that he needs to hide from others.

{The godly walk with integrity; blessed are their children who follow them. Proverbs 20:7}

{The purpose of my instruction is that all believers would be filled with love that comes from a pure heart, a clear conscience, and genuine faith. 1 Timothy 1:5}

{A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:10-12}

Day 11: Pray that your husband will have a humble, teachable spirit and a servant's heart before the Lord. Pray that he will listen to God and desire to do His will.

{Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor. Proverbs 15:33}

{Try to please them all the time, not just when they are watching you. As slaves of Christ, do the will of God with all your heart. Ephesians 6:6}

Day 12: Pray that your husband will yield his sexual drive to the Lord and practice self control. Pray that your sexual intimacy together will be fresh, positive, and a reflection of selfless love.

{Drink water from your own well- share your love with only your wife. Proverbs 5:15}

{Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you. Rejoice in the wife of your youth. Proverbs 5:18}

{I am my lover's, and he claims me as his own. Song of Solomon 7:10}

Day 13: Pray that your husband use practical skills to build your family and make wise decisions for your welfare. Pray that he will serve unselfishly.

{For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don't use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. Galatians 5:13}

{Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Philippians 2:3-4}

Day 14: Pray that your husband will speak works that build you and your family, and reflect a heart of love. Pray that he will not use any filthy language.

{The tongue can brig life or death; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. Proverbs 18:21}

{Don't use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29}

31 Days Of Praying For Your Husband - Week 1

I was on Pinterest a couple of months ago and came upon this post about praying for your husband. It tells you specifically what to pray for every day for 31 days.

Josh has a lot on his shoulders these days with working full time and EMT school full time and studying and tests and clinicals and papers and volunteering at the fire department and so on... I have been trying to be super nice and supportive and helpful because I know at the end of his long day the last thing he needs is to come home to a grumpy/complaining wife! Ha. This has been hard because I hardly ever see him anymore and he is not around much to help with things around the house but I know this is only for a short time. Thank goodness! I have been thinking though....if all of this is hard on me then I KNOW it has to be even harder on him.

That is where this "31 Days Of Praying For Your Husband" came into play. I think it is sooooo important as wives to be our husbands cheerleaders in life and to always be praying for them. I believe the devil wants nothing more than to destroy our husbands. They are the leaders of our home so if he can destroy them, he can destroy our homes & families. (Ever seen the movie Courageous?)

I love reading about the Proverbs 31 woman and pray that I can be like that. The 1st part of it says:

Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?

      She is more precious than rubies.
  Her husband can trust her,
      and she will greatly enrich his life.
  She brings him good, not harm,
      all the days of her life.

I started this "31 Days Of Praying For Your Husband" last week and have really enjoyed it so far so I thought I would share. Here you go:

Day 1: Pray that your husband will grow spiritually and consider his accountability before the Lord. Pray that he will guard his heart by developing spiritual disciplines - Bible reading and study, prayer, meditation, scripture memorization, etc.

{"Be on guard so that you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ." 2 Peter 3:17-18}

{"Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life." Proverbs 4:23}

Day 2: Pray that your husband's relationship with God and His word will bear fruit in his life. Pray that he will be a man of wisdom and understanding, fearing the Lord.

{"Don't be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil." Proverbs 3: 7}

{"Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgement." Proverbs 9:10}

{"Praise the Lord! How joyful are those who fear the Lord and delight in obeying His commands." Psalm 112:1}

Day 3: Pray that your husband will be humble and quick to agree with God about his sin. Pray that his heart will be tender toward the voice of the Lord.

{"Wash me clean from my guilt. Purify me from my sin. For I recognize my rebellion; it haunts me day and night." Psalm 51:2-4}

{"No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you : to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8}

Day 4: Pray that your husband will grow in leadership skills in your relationship- protecting and providing for you. Pray that he lead you wisely and love you sacrificially, so that God will be glorified in your marriage.

{"For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God's word. He did this to present her to himself as a glorified church without a spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself. No one hates his own body but feeds and cares for it, just as Christ cares for the church." Ephesians 5:25-29}

{"Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly." Colossians 3:19}

Day 5: Pray that your husband will be faithful to his wedding vows. Pray that he will have a desire to cultivate your relationship as a sign of his loyalty and commitment to you, and as a picture of Christ's love for the church.

{"Many say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable?" Proverbs 20:6}

{"This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one." Genesis 2:24}

Day 6: Pray that your husband will love righteousness and hate wickedness, especially the evils of the culture. Pray that he will recognize and avoid wickedness in his own life, and if necessary, take a clear, strong stand against evil.

{"A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences." Proverbs 27:12}

{"If you think you are standing strong, be careful not to fall. The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure." 1 Corinthians 10:12,13}

Day 7: Pray that your husband will safeguard his heart against inappropriate relationships with the opposite sex. Pray that his heart will be pure and undivided in his commitment to you.

{"For their command is a lamp and their instruction is a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life. It will keep you from the immoral woman, from the tongue of a promiscuous woman. Don't lust for her beauty. Don't let her coy glances seduce you. For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping with another man's wife will cost you your life." Proverbs 6:23-26}

{"Instead, clothe yourself with the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. And don't let yourself think about ways to indulge your evil desires." Romans 13:14}

Let's find time to pray for our husbands this week! :)

Taco Soup & "lighter" Mexican Cornbread

This taco soup and mexican cornbread is one of favorite meals right now! The hubby loves it too, which means we hardly ever have leftovers.
I combined a few recipes to get the taco soup recipe. Here it is:

1 can black beans
1 can kidney beans
1 can chili beans
1 can rotel
1 can whole kernel corn {drained}
1 can tomato sauce
1 can water
1 packet taco seasoning
squirt of ranch dressing {you could use a ranch packet but I didn't have one on hand. The squirt worked the same for me}
1 1/2 lbs LEAN hamburger meat {hubby likes a lot of meat--- you could also use ground turkey or chicken!}
chopped onion {however much you like}

-Cook hamburger meat and onions together until done. Drain.
-Combine all ingredients in crock pot. Stir. Cook on low 6-8 hours or on high 4-5 hours.

It is SOOOO yummy :)

And now for my favorite part- mexican cornbread. I found the original recipe here.

We are trying to eat healthier so I make some changes to it to save some calories. This recipe makes 8 servings at 355 calories for each serving {I did the math}!!! Ouch..... So I cut out the butter completely, no cheese and used egg whites instead of eggs and saved 174 calories per slice!!! Which brought us down to 180 calories each. That's what I'm talking about :) Those calories add up so it makes a big difference when you cut some things out.

What made me cut out the butter completely??? Well, I had a recipe for corn pudding that I made for a Christmas dinner we went to. It was the kind where you use Jiffy. Well, it called for a whole stick of butter that I completely forgot to put in there until AFTER I made it....And guess what? It was still SO good without the butter! Everyone at the Christmas party loved it. I know there are a lot of recipes where you need the butter and other things...but hey, if you can cut it out and it is still good, then great :)

Here is the recipe:

1 cup egg whites {I buy the egg whites in the carton at the grocery store}
3/4 small curd cottage cheese, low fat
1 box jiffy corn muffin mix
1/4 milk {I use 1%}
1 7 oz. can diced chiles
1 can whole kernel corn {drained}
{the original recipe also calls for 1 medium chopped onion but since I put onion in the soup I didn't put it in the cornbread also.}

-Stir all ingredients by hand in large bowl until just combined. Spray 9x9 inch square casserole dish {I used my cast iron skillet} with cooking spray and spread the batter in evenly. Bake at 400 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until cornbread is done and golden.

Enjoy!

What I'm Loving Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday! I canNOT believe how fast the weeks seem to go by. The only good thing about that is that Spring will be here before we know it! I am really needing some retail therapy and I have seen some really cute springy/summery outfits on Pinterest lately that I am loving. Here are a few...

Wow. By looking back at these pics it is very obvious what my favorite colors to wear during spring/summer are-

CORAL and TORQUOISE!

Oh, and I am in L O V E with these Toms :) They will be making their way into my life very soon!

I am also loving these cookies I made today. I cannot stop eating them. I made myself get off the couch tonight to do my Brazil butt lift video......and then I sat right back down and ate a bunch of these......

1 box Lemon Cake Mix
1- 8 oz container Cool Whip
1 egg
1/3 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

And more than anything I am L O V I N G my sweet hubby! Yesterday I woke up to the prettiest flowers and the sweetest love letter. Josh rarely ever buys me cards at the store. He loves to write them himself and I love it too :) :) :)
